New Outdoor Fireplace Build

In the same vicinity as the Colonial Shepard's Fireplace is a picnic area long used by our families. The perennial problem with this picnic area is the distance to the existing Shepard's fireplace. Making these fireplaces is no small feat and we had been content to walk back and forth from the fire or build small cooking fires in the picnic area. In a moment of energy and inspiration we decided to make new fireplace adjacent to the picnic area. An existing "serving" rock was well positioned in the picnic area by the glacier that left it and it makes  the perfect backstone for a new fireplace.  In a nod to the ingenuity and hard work of our colonial forbearers we lugged stones from a nearby carron and fashioned a new fire place they would have been proud of.

This glacial stone provided the perfect fireplace back for our new fireplace. Notice the tree growing from under the stone -we worked hard to protect the tree.

The fireplace is oriented southwest overlooking the picnic area and protected from the common north westerly winds.

We crowned the sides with flat stones to complement the back stone with prep and serving surfaces.
